Wife and mom. Photographer. Food finder. Beer drinker. Coffee sipper. Late night book reader. Everything in between.
Maven: a trusted expert in a particular field, who seeks to pass knowledge on to others. The word maven comes from Hebrew, meaning "one who understands", based on an accumulation of knowledge.
This blog came into existence out of necessity. Having recently realized that homeschooling my 12 year old daughter and being available to her as she moves into her teen years was fast becoming my focus. Therefore, I made the conscious decision to limit my availability to photography clients. Allowing me the time to devote to being there for her rather than for myself. The catch is.....I'm a creative person. Which translates into the need to be creative in some form or fashion. Hence, the birth of the Hungry Maven. I still plan to use my photography skills here and there for weddings (with VailStudio), some commercial work and the occasional portrait session, but my focus has changed.
Food. Drink. Photography. That's more along the lines of what I'm thinking!
I expect there will be smatterings of homeschool life since it takes up so much of my time, along with some "daily life" musings. We are all whole people comprised of many working parts...and my life is no different. It's incredibly exciting to finally create the time to share my love of food with anyone who cares to read, eat, travel and take the ride with me.
I'm passionately in love with discovering and experiencing great food no matter where I go. Sharing those experiences with my husband, daughter and friends. Appreciating the multitude of skills it takes to not only create the food, but also provide a memorable experience in the short amount of time we're there.
Ultimately, I'm driven by this secret vow to myself. That no matter where I travel to (and it ain't all glamorous) I will make the effort to find the hidden gems. Being duly grateful to experience the diamonds that are not so hidden, but tried and true.
Equal opportunity eating is quite okay with me!
I invite you to come along and come hungry.
